atyameva Jayate (transl. Truth alone triumphs) is a 2018 Indian Hindi-language vigilante action film written and directed by Milap Milan Zaveri that follows a vigilante Virendra Rathod (played by John Abraham) who kills corrupt police officers and an honest officer (played by Manoj Bajpayee) who is called to hunt Virendra down after the body count begins to rise. Produced and distributed by T-Series, the film marks the second collaboration between Abraham and Bajpayee, after Shootout at Wadala (2013). Principal photography for Satyameva Jayate began on 5 March 2018. It was released in global cinemas on 15 August 2018, coinciding with India's Independence Day. Opening on 2500 screens, the film received mixed reviews from critics and clashed with Reema Kagti's sports drama Gold starring Akshay Kumar. Nevertheless, Satyameva Jayate was well received by the audience and broke various opening day records for an A-rated film. It emer ged as a super-hit at the box office, grossing ?1.10 billion (US$15 million) worldwide. A sequel named Satyameva Jayate 2 was announced on 27 September 2018, and went on floors in October 2020 before its shoot was completed in January 2021. Starring Abraham and Divya Khosla Kumar in lead roles, Satyameva Jayate 2 was scheduled for worldwide cinema release on 13 May 2021 during the Eid weekend but has been postponed indefinitely due to COVID-19 pandemi
