Description

The largest obstacle preventing the migration from svn to Git is the lack of confidence in the current state of Git plugins for Trac (see GitObjections). The best way to overcome that objection would be for someone to set up a clone of Parrot's Trac site which includes integration both with an existing read-only svn repository and a Git repository, demonstrating that the two can peacefully coexist and that links to both repositories will work. Once we have such a site, it will be much easier to show that the migration will not cause unnecessary interruptions to Parrot development.

A regularly updated read-only Git clone of the Parrot repository is available at  http://github.com/leto/parrot. Contact Coke for a dump of the Trac site.

I believe I've heard on IRC that we're making progress on the transition to git. But could someone involved with that please post an update in this ticket?

Thank you very much.

Our goals have changed a bit since I originally filed this ticket. The current plan is to preserve existing links to revisions, but to avoid keeping a read-only svn repo. I have a site that demonstrates link-backwards compatibility up at  http://mksig.org/trac/ . I'm marking this ticket fixed.
