Description

parrotbug@… still works and directs to RT, the old ticket system. This might be seen as confusing and not conducive to switching over to trac.

I agree with this pretty strongly, sending in bugs by email is one of the primary methods that non-developers have to report problems. It's the method that we've advertised everywhere, and even if we remove those advertisements some older testers will still send to this address. We really should make sure that parrotbug@… either redirects to Trac, or should be replaced with something like parrotbug@… to do so.

On the other hand, running tickets through a web interface means that every ticket follows some kind of standard, and gives us an opportunity to collect meta-information from the reporter, like the platform where the bug occurred. Running ticket modifications through the web interface also means that tickets only get sane summary of an email discussion thread, instead of the long rambling tickets we had in RT that take 20 minutes just to review.

(Last I heard, Coke was working on a way to enable Trac to receive bug reports by email, so this will likely be resolved soon. I'm just not sure it's something that actually needs "fixing".)

The attached patch changes parrotbug to display a message that (re)directs the user to trac.parrot.org instead.

I don't mind users opening tickets on the old RT system until such time as we get our email in order.

Well, TT #49 hasn't been updated in about 4 weeks. So I guess we haven't made further progress.

Committed a modified version of Patrick's patch to the parrotbug script in r37107. (Only disabling the send feature.)
