This item is listed as a milestone item for the 2.0 release. Can we get a little bit more information about what it is, whether it's still relevant (with PGE being at least partially supplanted by NQP-RX), and what needs to be done to mark this complete?

I think this can be marked complete now. PGE is obsoleted in favor of the new regex engine in NQP-rx, and that engine now provides a <.DEBUG> subrule that allows regex tracing to be selectively enabled and disabled for tracing various parts of a match.

It's entirely possible we'll want to change the detail of what gets output, but I've found the <.DEBUG> subrule to be sufficient for most of the things I've been needing to debug.

So, I suggest close this ticket as being now completed for 2.0, and if there are specific cases that need increased visibility, let's have specific tickets for those cases.

(If someone really needs this capability in PGE itself, as opposed to nqp-rx, I suspect the technique that nqp-rx uses can be backported into PGE.)

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
