What mailing lists should parrot.org host?

Description

We currently host a number of mailing lists in the  lists.parrot.org domain: parrot-dev, parrot-members, etc. Last night I began to think about the value of a mailing list for a geographically-focused subset of Parrot users, e.g., nycparrotusers.

Would this be something we would want to host at lists.parrot.org? Or should we think about setting up a more user-focused domain similar to the mailing lists hosted for Perl Monger groups at  pm.org?

In the short-run, I could always host such a group on my own server. But I suspect that pretty quickly people would want to see that the list is on something more explicitly connected to Parrot.

Opinions?

As allison said in #608, I would very much like to see a parrot-users list for questions about using parrot rather than developing parrot.

I agree that parrot.org is an appropriate name for a general purpose parrot-users list. Can our admins set this up now?

But that wasn't the question I was raising. I would like to know whether people think parrot.org is an appropriate domain for local, geographically-focused mailing lists for the Parrot equivalent of Perlmongers groups.

I think it's reasonable, sure, given that our level of demand right now is only for one geography.

I would rather have it be something like parrot-users-nyc.

I would rather have a per-list administration, however, and I'm not sure if that's possible with the current setup. I'll talk to someone at OSU about that.

Fine by me.

Thanks. If that is feasible, I think that would be the way to go.

parrot-users-nyc now exists at

 http://lists.parrot.org/mailman/listinfo/parrot-users-nyc

kid51 is setup as a list admin; I'll leave it to him to send out a more official announcement to the various lists.

Regards!
